Terms of Service
Last updated: 6 October 2026
These Terms of Service (the Terms) are the agreement between you and us for using the StreamSpanish mobile app (the App) and the website at streamspanish.com (the Website, together the Service). We have written them in plain English. Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect and why; it is a separate document and is not repeated here. If anything is unclear, email support@streamspanish.com.
1. Who we are and this agreement
StreamSpanish is operated by:
Luchian Software Consulting, Inc.8141 Campeau Drive Suite 1019
Kanata, ON K2T 1B7
Canada
We are a Canadian federal corporation incorporated under the Canada Business Corporations Act. In these Terms, we, us and our mean Luchian Software Consulting, Inc., and you means the person using the Service. More trader information is on our Legal & Trader Information page.
By creating an account, starting a free trial, subscribing, or otherwise using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1.1 Who can use the Service
The Service is intended for people aged 13 and over. You must not use it if you are under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the Service, and buy a subscription, with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
2. The Service
StreamSpanish helps you learn Spanish by reading the news. The App takes real Spanish-language news articles from third-party publishers and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to rewrite them at four CEFR proficiency levels: A2, B1, B2 and C1. It also generates short English translations of words you tap, English summaries at some levels, and short comprehension quizzes. Section 6 explains what that means for the content you read.
- The App runs on iPhone and on Android phones. Its interface is in English; the articles are in Spanish.
- The App needs an internet connection to fetch new articles, sign you in, process purchases and send reports. Articles you have already downloaded can be read without a connection for as long as they are kept on your phone.
- To keep the Service working for everyone, we apply reasonable usage limits, such as a daily cap on requests to our servers.
- We are continually improving the Service, so features, levels, the news sources we draw on, and the look of the App may change over time. Section 9 explains how we handle changes that matter to you.
3. Your account
3.1 Signing in
Reading articles requires an account. You create one by signing in with Apple or with Google; we do not use a separate username or password. Your use of those sign-in services is also covered by Apple's or Google's own terms. Signing in with Apple and signing in with Google create two separate StreamSpanish accounts.
An account is for one person. Please do not share it, and keep the Apple or Google account you sign in with secure, because anyone who can use that account can use yours. If you think someone else has accessed your account, tell us at support@streamspanish.com.
3.2 Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the App: open the Settings tab and tap Delete account under Account, then confirm. If the subscription screen is showing instead, tap the gear icon at the top to reach the same option. Deletion closes your account permanently and signs you out on that phone. It cannot be undone; if you sign in again later, you start a new, empty account.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so you must cancel yours separately through the App Store or Google Play (see section 4.4), ideally before you delete the account.
What we keep after deletion, for how long, and how to ask for the remaining data to be erased are explained in sections 9 and 10 of the Privacy Policy.
4. Subscriptions, free trials and billing
4.1 Subscriptions
Full access to the App requires a paid subscription, or one of the free trials described in section 4.2. We offer a monthly plan and a yearly plan. Both are auto-renewing subscriptions: they renew automatically at the end of each period, and you are charged for the next period, until you cancel.
The current price, billing period and any free trial for each plan are shown on the subscription screen in the App, directly under the button, before you confirm a purchase. Prices are set per country and may vary by country and currency, and may include taxes as the store applies them. We may change prices from time to time. If the price of your subscription goes up, the App Store or Google Play will notify you in advance and, where their rules or the law require it, ask for your agreement before the new price applies.
4.2 Free trials
The 3-day free trial (yearly plan). Where the App Store or Google Play offers it, eligible new subscribers can start the yearly plan with a 3-day free trial. The store decides who is eligible; when the trial applies, the button reads Start 3-day free trial and the trial terms are shown under it before you confirm. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the yearly subscription starts and you are charged the yearly price when the trial ends. The store sets the cut-off: Apple asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial.
The free 24-hour pass. A new account can also try the full App free for 24 hours. The 24-hour pass is not a store purchase: it needs no payment card, it does not renew automatically, and nothing is charged when it ends. When the 24 hours are up, the App asks you to subscribe if you want to keep reading. The pass is available once per account.
4.3 Who sells and bills your subscription
Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. Apple, and Google in the countries where it acts as merchant of record, sell the subscription to you and collect payment under their own terms. We never see your payment card or billing address. Your purchase is also governed by the store's terms of sale.
4.4 Cancelling
You cancel through the store you bought from. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel before your renewal date.
- In the App: open the Settings tab and tap Manage subscription, which opens your store's subscription page. If the subscription screen is showing instead, tap the gear icon at the top; the same row is there.
- iPhone: see Apple's guide, Cancel a subscription from Apple.
- Android: see Google's guide, Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play.
4.5 Refunds
Because Apple and Google take the payment, refunds are requested through the store you bought from and handled under that store's refund policy. Please ask the store:
- App Store: request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com (see Apple's refund guide). Apple handles these refunds; we cannot refund App Store purchases ourselves.
- Google Play: see Google Play refund policies. For Google Play purchases you can also email us at support@streamspanish.com.
Nothing in these Terms takes away any right you have under the consumer law of the place where you live, including any legal right to withdraw from a purchase or to a remedy if the Service is faulty or not as described. Where such a right concerns a store purchase, you exercise it through the store, using the links above.
5. Your licence to use the App
Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial language learning. You may not sell, rent, lend or sublicense the App or the Service.
If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA) governs your licence to the App software, and these Terms govern the Service we provide through it. We have written this section so that it does not conflict with the Standard EULA; if it ever does, the Standard EULA prevails for the licence to the App software.
If you downloaded the App from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download and to purchases made through Google Play.
6. Articles and AI-generated content
6.1 Where the articles come from
Each article is based on a real news story from a third-party publisher, obtained through a news aggregator. The App names the publisher of every article and links to the original story. StreamSpanish is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the publishers, and the views in an article are the publisher's, not ours.
6.2 AI can be wrong
The simplified articles, word translations, English summaries and quizzes are generated automatically by AI; the App marks articles, summaries and quizzes with an AI label. They can contain mistakes: a rewrite may leave out, change or misstate facts from the original story, a translation may be inaccurate, and a quiz answer may be wrong. The CEFR levels are a guide to difficulty, not an assessment of your ability.
The Service is a language-learning tool, not a news service. Do not rely on it as an accurate or complete account of events, or as a basis for decisions about your health, money, safety, legal position or anything else that matters. For the facts, read the original story from the publisher.
6.3 Reporting a problem
If a simplified article is inaccurate, offensive or confusing, tap Report this simplification at the end of the article. We review reports and use them to improve the Service.
If you are a publisher or rights holder and want an article removed, or you want to report content you believe is illegal, follow the takedown and reporting steps on our Legal & Trader Information page. Articles and their simplified versions are deleted from our servers 7 days after we fetch them.
6.4 Personal use only
The articles and everything generated from them are provided for your personal reading and study inside the App. You may not copy, republish, distribute, sell or publicly display them, whether in original or simplified form.
7. Acceptable use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- scrape, crawl, bulk-download or otherwise extract content from the App or our servers by automated means, or call our servers other than through the App;
- use content from the Service to build a dataset or a competing product, or to train an AI model;
- copy, modify, decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble the App, except to the extent the law allows you to do so despite this restriction;
- get around, disable or interfere with the subscription gate, the free trials, usage limits, or any security feature of the Service;
- create more than one account, or use other people's accounts, to obtain more free trials or free access than you are entitled to;
- overload, disrupt, probe or attack the Service, our servers, or the networks connected to them;
- use the Service in any way that breaks the law or infringes anyone else's rights;
- misuse the reporting or support channels, for example by sending abusive or automated messages.
8. Intellectual property
Ours. The App, the Website, the StreamSpanish name and logo, our software and our design belong to us or to our licensors. These Terms give you only the licence in section 5; they do not transfer any ownership to you.
Publishers'. The original news reporting belongs to its publishers. Nothing in these Terms gives you any rights in it beyond reading it in the App as described in section 6.
Your feedback. If you send us suggestions, reports or other feedback, you allow us to use them, free of charge and without any obligation to you, to run and improve the Service. How we handle the personal information in a message you send us is covered by the Privacy Policy.
9. Availability, changes, suspension and termination
9.1 Availability
We work to keep the Service available, but we cannot promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. It depends on our servers, on third-party news and AI providers, and on the app stores, and we may need to pause it for maintenance or repairs.
9.2 Changes to the Service
We may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what you get from a subscription you have paid for, we will tell you by email or in the App in advance where we reasonably can, and you can cancel through the store. You keep any rights the law gives you in that situation. If we decide to close the Service entirely, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email or in the App, and you can ask the store for a refund of any period you have paid for but cannot use.
9.3 Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires us to, or if it is needed to protect the Service or other people. Where we reasonably can, and unless the law or a security concern prevents it, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond first. If you think we got it wrong, email support@streamspanish.com.
You can stop using the Service at any time by cancelling your subscription through the store and, if you wish, deleting your account (section 3.2).
10. Our responsibility to you
10.1 What we promise
We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. Apart from that and from any promise the law makes on our behalf, we provide the Service as it is and as available, and we do not make other promises about it, in particular about the accuracy of AI-generated content (section 6.2).
10.2 Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using the Service, for loss of profit, business or opportunity, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for your subscription in the 12 months before the claim arose.
10.3 What these limits do not affect
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these Terms affects the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the place where you live.
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have legal rights if digital content or a digital service is faulty or not as described, and we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Sections 10.1 and 10.2 do not reduce those rights.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you habitually live (as Article 6 of the Rome I Regulation, and its UK equivalent, provide). The same applies wherever else the law of the place where you live gives you that protection, including in Quebec.
If you have a problem, please email support@streamspanish.com first; most issues can be sorted out that way. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally may be brought before the courts of Ontario. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the place where you live, where the law gives you that right. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not prevent you from joining a class or collective action.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when the Service changes or the law requires it. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the App at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the change is required sooner by law. Changes do not apply retroactively. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop using the Service and cancel your subscription through the store before the change takes effect; continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Other terms
- These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and, for App Store downloads, Apple's Standard EULA, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
- If a court finds part of these Terms invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights under these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to another organisation that takes over the Service, and we will tell you if we do; this will not reduce your rights under these Terms.
14. French version for Quebec residents
These Terms are currently published in English. If you live in Quebec, you may ask for a French version by emailing support@streamspanish.com.
Résidents du Québec : vous pouvez demander une version française des présentes conditions en écrivant à support@streamspanish.com.
