Answers to common questions about the StreamSpanish app.
Get in touch
Email us at:
You can also write from inside the app: open the Settings tab and tap Send feedback. That email already includes your app version and device platform. If the subscription screen is showing instead, tap the gear icon at the top and choose Contact support.
If you write to us directly, it helps to include:
- your phone model and its iOS or Android version;
- the app version, shown at the bottom of the Settings tab (for example, StreamSpanish · Version 1.0.0);
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead, with a screenshot if you can.
StreamSpanish is built and supported by one developer, so a real person reads every message. We aim to reply within a few business days. You are welcome to write in English or Spanish.
Getting started
Which devices does StreamSpanish run on?
iPhone and Android phones. There is no iPad version. The app's interface is in English; the articles are in Spanish.
Why do I need to sign in?
You sign in with Apple (on iPhone) or with Google (on iPhone or Android). Your account is what ties your subscription and free trial to you, so you can get them back on a new phone. There is no separate username or password. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what we store.
How do I choose or change my level?
The first time you open the app, it asks for your level: A2 (Elementary), B1 (Intermediate), B2 (Upper Intermediate) or C1 (Advanced). If you tap Skip for now, you start at B1. There is no placement test, so pick the level that feels right and adjust as you go.
You can change it at any time:
- in the Settings tab, under Reading Level → Default CEFR Level;
- by tapping the level pill at the top of the Feed, which takes you to that same setting;
- inside an article, with the A2 B1 B2 C1 switcher at the top. Switching there also becomes your default level for new articles.
How does tap-to-translate work?
While reading a simplified article, tap any word to see a short English translation next to it. Translations are downloaded with the article, so they work without a connection. Tap translation is not available on the original publisher text. Occasionally a word has no entry, and the popup shows No translation.
Subscription & billing
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New accounts can try everything free for 24 hours. If you close the subscription screen with the × in the top corner, the app offers the free day; tap Sounds good! and sign in to start it. The free day needs no card and does not renew automatically. When it ends, you are asked to subscribe. It is available once per account.
The yearly plan also includes a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, where the store offers it. When it applies, the button reads Start 3-day free trial and the exact terms are shown under it before you confirm.
What plans are there?
A monthly plan and a yearly plan. Current prices in your currency are shown on the subscription screen in the app. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple or Google, so you cancel through the store you bought from. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel before your renewal date (Apple asks for at least 24 hours before the end of the current period).
In the app: open the Settings tab and tap Manage subscription. This opens your store's subscription page. If the subscription screen is showing instead, tap the gear icon at the top; the same row is there under Subscription.
iPhone: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose StreamSpanish and tap Cancel Subscription. Apple's guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.
Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, choose StreamSpanish and tap Cancel subscription. Google's guide: Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play.
Cancelling stops future payments. It does not delete your StreamSpanish account.
How do I get a refund?
Because Apple and Google process the payment, refunds are requested through the store you bought from and handled under its refund policy.
- App Store: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com (see Apple's refund guide). Apple handles these refunds; we cannot refund App Store purchases ourselves.
- Google Play: see Google Play refund policies. For Google Play purchases you can also email us at support@streamspanish.com.
I got a new phone or reinstalled the app. How do I get my subscription back?
Install StreamSpanish, open it, and on the subscription screen tap Restore at the bottom. You can also tap the gear icon on that screen and choose Restore Purchases. Restoring uses the App Store or Google Play account signed in on the phone, so make sure it is the one you subscribed with. If the app asks you to sign in to StreamSpanish, use the same Apple or Google sign-in you used before.
Can I use one subscription on both iPhone and Android?
Your subscription is billed by the store you bought it from. Note that signing in with Apple and signing in with Google create two separate StreamSpanish accounts, and Android offers Google sign-in only. If you are moving between iPhone and Android, email support@streamspanish.com and we will help.
Your account & data
How do I sign out?
Open the Settings tab and tap Sign out under Account. If the subscription screen is showing, tap the gear icon at the top to reach the same Account section. Your reading progress and quiz history stay on this phone; they are stored only on your device and are never uploaded.
How do I delete my account?
Open the Settings tab and tap Delete account under Account, then confirm. If the subscription screen is showing, tap the gear icon at the top and use Delete account there; it appears once you are signed in. This closes your account permanently and signs you out on that phone. If you sign in again later, you start a new, empty account.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it separately through the App Store or Google Play (see above), ideally before you delete the account.
Deleting closes the account but keeps the closed account record, including your email address. To have that data erased as well, email support@streamspanish.com from the address you signed in with, or tell us which address that is (for example, if you used Apple's Hide My Email). Reading progress, quiz history and downloaded articles on your phone are removed when you uninstall the app. The Privacy Policy explains what we keep and for how long.
Articles & AI
Where do the articles come from?
Each article is a real news story from a Spanish-language publisher, rewritten by AI at four levels. StreamSpanish is not affiliated with the publishers. Every article names its source. Tap the source name at the top to open the original story in your browser, or tap → Original to read the publisher's original Spanish text in the app.
The simplified text, translations, summaries and quizzes are generated by AI and can contain mistakes.
What if a simplified article is wrong or offensive?
At the end of a simplified article, tap Report this simplification and choose Inaccurate, Offensive or Confusing. We review reports and use them to improve the simplifications.
What does the difficulty rating do?
When you finish an article, the app asks how the level felt: Too Easy, Just Right or Too Hard. Ratings help us tune how articles are simplified at each level. They do not change your level; to do that, see changing your level.
Why did an article disappear?
Articles are removed from our servers 7 days after they are added. On your phone, downloaded articles are kept for the period set in Settings → Storage → Keep Articles (7, 14 or 30 days; 7 by default).
I'm a publisher. How do I request removal of an article?
Email support@streamspanish.com with the subject line "Takedown request". See Legal & Trader Information for takedown and illegal-content reporting.
Troubleshooting
The feed says "Couldn't sync — showing cached articles"
The app could not reach our servers, so it is showing articles you have already downloaded. These can still be read, with translations and quizzes, without a connection. Check your internet connection, then tap Retry or pull down on the feed to refresh. New articles, signing in, purchases and reports all need a connection.
I subscribed, but the app still shows the subscription screen
Tap Restore at the bottom of the subscription screen, or tap the gear icon and choose Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you used to subscribe. If that doesn't work, email us with the approximate purchase date and store.
I was signed out unexpectedly
Sessions expire from time to time. When the app next needs your account, it will ask you to sign in. Use the same Apple or Google account you signed up with; signing in with a different one creates a separate account.
Tapping a word shows nothing, or "No translation"
Tap-to-translate works on the simplified text only. If you are viewing the publisher's text, tap ← Simplified to switch back. A few words have no entry and show No translation; if you notice this often, let us know.
Which version of the app do I have?
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings tab. The version is shown as StreamSpanish · Version x.y.z. If something isn't working, check the App Store or Google Play for an update first.
